The Reason the DNC is Hiding its 2024 Election Autopsy: A Deep Dive.

This move by the DNC to block the release regarding its internal post-election analysis concerning the 2024 election appears stunning yet not surprising. Resistant to frank assessments, the party's leadership apparatus behaves closer to a PR firm rather than a political organization committed to building a volunteer base capable of prevailing at the polls.

An Environment of Conformity

Reluctant to challenge the prevailing attitude demanding unity, the committee has continued under the Biden-Harris shadow all through this past year. Making public an official autopsy could have demonstrated whether party leaders actually want to promote honest conversation about the strategic failures that paved the way for Donald Trump to return to the White House. Instead, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there is little to understand following the stunning loss from the last cycle.

The top priority: does this help us win? If the answer is no, it becomes a sideline issue from what truly matters," a justification which was presented for withholding the document.

Critical Problems an Analysis Would Have Explored

An autopsy report with any value would not dodge key points of failure. This encompasses:

  • Electoral Alienation: Losing among a significant portion of the electorate who supported the Democratic ticket in 2020 became a critical factor during the tight recent race.
  • A Insistence to Seek Re-election: The determined insistence of a party leader to run again, coupled with an extremely delayed withdrawal, is seen by some as denying Democratic voters of a genuine choice.
  • Abandoning Core Democratic Voters: During a time of rising costs, the electoral effort reportedly bowing to powerful financial backers while failing to address the effects of corporate greed.
  • A Gaza Factor: The refusal to reconsider an approach concerning a major international conflict is cited as losing key demographic groups, especially with young people, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Youth Allegiance: Research demonstrates a significant decrease of support for the party from the youth electorate.

A History Avoiding Accountability

This refusal is consistent with a pattern of sidestepping difficult realities. It recalls an episode in which nearly all Democratic officeholder in Washington went along with an incumbent's determination to seeking another term until a catastrophic public debate performance compelled an exit.

Concurrently, a significant majority of the electorate were consistently telling pollsters that they did not want the incumbent to seek re-election.

Campaign Spending Questions

A substantive autopsy would also examine questions about campaign spending, such as what sums flowed to high-priced advisors as well as ad buyers during an electoral effort which expended a staggering war chest over a few months.

A Broader Problem

Fundamentally, the secrecy of the official autopsy is symptomatic of a submission to the established hierarchy responsible for a disastrous presidential campaign. The implication for the party's base – which includes countless dedicated activists – is that they cannot have a right to understand what the insiders have learned based on a report based on conversations with insiders.

An organization unwilling to honestly assess its own failings will struggle to break free from the cycle which was so helpful to their opponents.
